The inauguration of Eastwood Koreatown took place on 11 July 2023 at Eastwood Moko. The distinguished guests-of-honour included Mayor Sakis Yedelian and Federal MP for Bennelong, Jerome Laxale.

The Korean Community of Commerce in the City of Ryde (KCCR) remains a key partner – from the start of this remarkable visionary journey to inception and reality. A recipient of the prestigious NSW Government Uptown Program, KCCR’s unwavering dedication and collaboration with the City of Ryde paved the way for the formal establishment of the Koreatown precinct on Rowe Street East.

Eastwood Koreatown sparked an outpouring of enthusiasm from the local community, a testament to the City of Ryde’s dedication to inclusivity and cohesiveness. This bustling district, wholeheartedly embraces diversity, encourages local entrepreneurship, and is destined to become a cherished landmark, welcoming enthusiasts of all-things-Korean as well as visiting tourists and travellers.

The NSW Government's Uptown Project is a multi-faceted initiative aimed at boosting the night-time economy and cultural vibrancy across various districts within Greater Sydney.

The City of Ryde

Playing a pivotal role, the City of Ryde recognized the significance of Eastwood's growing Korean community and championed its official recognition. They actively collaborate with community stakeholders and actively invest in promoting Koreatown through grants like the Uptown Grant Program, facilitating events, and beautifying the precinct with culturally relevant artworks.

As the voice of the Korean community, KCCR actively promotes Korean culture and businesses in the City of Ryde. They were instrumental in securing the Uptown Grant and are leading the multi-platform advertising campaign aiming to attract millions of visitors to Eastwood Koreatown.
